Study Permit Standard Application Process
Get ready and apply online (for all applications)
Include a certified translation with any document that is not in English or French.
After submission of all required documents, you may be required to attend an interview.
A medical exam will be required for study programs exceeding 6 months. Medical results may take up to 4 weeks.
Any preparations you make, such as paying administration or tuition fees, are done entirely at your own risk.
Do not finalize travel plans unless you have received your visa. A parent or legal guardian will sign for a minor child.
Failure to submit all required documentation may result in the refusal of your application or processing delays.
False statements or submission of fraudulent documents will result in refusal and may lead to legal action against you and a ban on future admission.
Application Checklist
You must submit the following items:
1.Nigeria Student Express (NSE) Standard Study Permit
2.Reside outside of Canada when you apply
3. Two recent passport photographs for each applicant: Visa Application Photograph Specifications
4. A valid passport or travel document for yourself and each family member:
Upload a copy of the information page of your passport when you apply online.
oIf you are approved, you must then send us your original passport.
Note: your passport must be valid for at least 6 months.
5. Previous passports showing travel history.
6. Letter of acceptance from a post- secondary designated learning institution in Canada for a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree program or a post-graduate diploma or certificate course stating:
7. Unconditional admission, or if conditional, you must show you can meet the conditions;
course title and level of study; duration of study; and
start date (multiple start dates, if applicable) and latest possible date of admission.
Note: If you are planning to study in Quebec, have a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) from the Ministère de
l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration. Letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution in Canada stating:
unconditional admission, or if conditional, you must show you can meet the conditions;
course title and level of study; duration of study; and
start date (multiple start dates, if applicable) and latest possible date of admission.
Note: If you are planning to study in Quebec, have a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) from the Ministère de
l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration.
8. Test Scores – language test result:
a score of 6.0 or higher in each skill (reading, writing, speaking and listening) on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or
a Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) score that is equal to a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of at least 7 in each skill (reading, writing, speaking and listening) Academic Documents:
present academic standings (up-to- date transcripts);
WAEC,SSCE or NECO results;
postsecondary transcripts;
all certificates and diplomas. You must provide evidence of all current and past education, including the street name address of ALL previous educational institutions that you attended; and
include NYSC certificate, if applicable
9. Proof of sufficient funds to cover your tuition and living expenses for at least one year in Canada. In addition to the cost of tuition, you should have at least CAD
$10,000 available to cover your living expenses; an additional minimum requirement of CAD $4,000 must be added if a spouse or partner is accompanying the student, as well as CAD $3,000 per accompanying child or other accompanying dependent.
